On October 4, 2022, the NBV organized the Netherlands Biotechnology Congress (NBC-22) in the Corpus Congress Center in Oegstgeest. The event brought together a record number of more than 200 biotechnologists who were inspired by 3 keynotes, 24 parallel lectures, 39 posters with accompanying pitches, the 9 companies that were present with stands, and of course each other.

Keynotes

The program was opened by LanzaTech's Chief Sustainability Officer Freya Burton with an inspiring story about both the technical and business challenges of enabling their biotech solution for recycling carbon waste on a commercial scale. The second keynote lecture was given by the renowned TU Delft professor Mark van Loosdrecht, with an impressive story about how understanding the ecology of micro-organisms can contribute to innovative solutions for amongst others water purification. The conference was concluded by Maria Fátima Lucas, CEO of ZYMVOL, with a wonderful story and insight into the importance of in silico biotechnology and an important message to all young researchers to learn programming, among other things.

Poster Awards

Several prizes were awarded during the event. The Corbion poster pitch prize (250 euros) went to Gwen Tjallinks and the Corbion poster prize (500 euros) was won by Rianne Prins, both from the University of Groningen. Both winners convinced the poster jury with creativity and content. The prizes were presented by poster jury chairman and NBV board member Niels van Mossevelde.
